Pressure Vessels (API 510)
The American Petroleum Institute standard (API-510 Pressure Vessel Inspection Code) covers maintenance inspection, repairs, alterations, and re-powering procedures for pressure vessels used in the petroleum and chemical process industries.
Why do we inspect pressure vessels?
- Identify discrepancies between operating conditions against international code and regulatory requirements (API, AWS, OSHA CFR 1910.119, etc.)
- Assess the safe condition of the containment of liquids and gases stored in welded containers operating at pressures greater than 15 psi.
- Remaining life estimates and pressure and temperature RE-rating studies for service conditioning actions.
- Establish appropriate inspection intervals.
- Evaluation of findings and identification of failure modes.
- Review of selection of metallic, non-metallic materials and internal and external protective coatings for improved performance and corrosion resistance
- Indicate repair procedures in accordance with engineering practices and adherence to current international regulations.
- Establish monitoring points for corrosion rate evaluation with prediction of catastrophic failure by interrelating inspection data and substandard operating conditions.
- Establish inspection programs for new and operating equipment based on international risk-based inspection standards API 580.
- Preparation of API 510 reports, with indications of immediate and planned maintenance actions.
